Team Spotlight: Katrina Thomas Director of Professional Standards

Can you tell us about your role at Kooyoora?

I am part of the investigation and complaints team.  I supervise staff and try to provide consistent and measured guidance.  I am dealing with people and challenging situations every day.  There is a lot of reading and consideration given to the work.

What inspired you to work at Kooyoora?

I felt like I had a lot of transferable skills that I could take into a new challenge.  It was that time in my life for a change.

What do you like most about working at Kooyoora?

People.  For me it is the people that can make work enjoyable but it is also people that present the most challenges.

What does a typical day 'in the office' look like?

Roughly 6-800 steps.

What is a hobby/interest you have outside of work?

I am kept very busy with children and grandchildren, I have a lot of hobbies that I hope to get too in retirement.  I enjoy most my time in the garden, there is something very therapeutic about being in touch with nature.

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?

Being with family, in the sunshine, enjoying conversation and picking at a great charcuterie board.

Coffee or tea (or neither)?

Neither, unless the coffee is in a dessert.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Boring, loyal and consistent

What's the best place you've ever travelled to? Why?

A little town called Menangle.  It was were my paternal grandparents lived and my dad raised.  As kids we had so much fun with Nan and Pop and our cousins.  It’s a town full of Australian history, where I feel close to my heritage and it brings back happy memories.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I wish.

What’s a fun fact about you?

Not that it’s a fun fact but I love creating and craft.  I would have loved to be a builder, the achievement is seeing what I could create.

Cat or dog (or neither)?

I have a cat, she is a working cat, I really am neither, too many children who have to take priority over animals.

Would you rather sing karaoke (solo) or be part of a choir?

Part of a choir, that way I may sound half decent or I could just be the lip syncing choir member.

Do you have a favourite quote or motto you live by?

Nothing positive come from negative thoughts.
