How Kooyoora Can Help You

Get help, raise a concern or find information

Your church or organisation has appointed Kooyoora to help prevent and respond to abuse, misconduct and other harmful behaviour.

You can contact Kooyoora if you have a concern about your own safety or someone else’s, have experienced or witnessed harmful behaviour, need support, or are unsure what to do.

You do not need to know whether a concern is serious enough before contacting us.

When You May Need Our Help

I am concerned about someone’s safety

You may be worried about a child, young person or adult, or about behaviour you have seen, heard about or experienced.

Kooyoora can listen to your concern, help you understand your options and explain what may happen next.

I have experienced or witnessed harmful behaviour

You can speak with our team about abuse, misconduct, inappropriate behaviour or another experience that has caused harm or concern.

You can contact us about something happening now or something that happened in the past.

I need information or support

Speaking about a concern or taking part in a complaint, investigation or redress process can be difficult. We can explain the process, provide information about available support and, where appropriate, help connect you with another service.

I am involved in a Kooyoora process

You may be involved as a person who raised a concern, a person responding to a complaint, a witness, a support person or in another capacity.

Find clear information about what to expect, your rights and responsibilities, privacy, support and the next steps in the process.

I am not sure what to do

You do not need to understand safeguarding processes or know exactly what kind of help you need before contacting Kooyoora.

You can ask a question, discuss a situation or seek information about the options available to you.

Why your church or organisation has appointed Kooyoora

Your church or organisation has appointed Kooyoora as part of its commitment to providing a safe, respectful and accountable environment.

Kooyoora helps your organisation meet its legal and other responsibilities to prevent harm, respond appropriately to concerns and support people affected by abuse or misconduct.

As a separate organisation, Kooyoora gives you another place to raise a concern, seek information or access support. This helps provide confidence that concerns will be taken seriously and handled through clear and fair processes.

What Kooyoora does

Kooyoora provides safeguarding, professional standards, investigation and redress services. Depending on the arrangements with your church or organisation, our role may include:

  • receiving and assessing concerns and complaints

  • managing complaint processes

  • conducting independent investigations

  • coordinating wellbeing support

  • managing redress processes

  • providing advice, education and practical resources.

The services available may differ between organisations. We will explain Kooyoora’s role when you contact us.

What happens when you contact us?

Privacy and Confidentiality

We respect your privacy and handle personal information carefully. We will explain what information we collect, why it is needed and who it may need to be shared with.

Information cannot always remain confidential. Kooyoora may need to share information if someone may be at risk, if reporting is required by law, or if information is needed to assess or respond to a concern. Where possible, we will explain this to you before information is shared.

Wellbeing Support

Speaking about a concern or taking part in a complaint, investigation or redress process can be difficult. Kooyoora’s wellbeing support provides a safe space to talk about how the process is affecting you, identify your support needs and consider practical ways to look after your wellbeing.

Depending on the services available through your organisation, Kooyoora may provide wellbeing support directly or help connect you with another appropriate service.

We discuss the available options

Depending on the circumstances, this may include providing information, recording or assessing a concern, explaining how to make a complaint, arranging support or outlining a formal process.

We explain what happens next

We will provide clear information about the next steps, how your information may be used or shared, and any action that may be required if someone is at risk.
