Independent safeguarding solutions for safer organisations
We help organisations prevent harm, identify and respond to concerns fairly through independent, impartial and trauma-informed services.
Safeguarding Services
Supporting safer organisations through prevention, early intervention and response.
Kooyoora provides comprehensive safeguarding and professional standards services to organisations across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
We work with organisations to prevent harm, identify concerns early and respond to complaints, misconduct and abuse. Our services are independent, impartial and trauma-informed, with a strong focus on the safety and wellbeing of children and adults.
Whether your organisation needs support with a specific concern or wants to strengthen its broader safeguarding practices, our experienced team can provide practical guidance and services tailored to your needs.
Our multidisciplinary team brings together experience across investigations, psychology, social work, education, policing and other specialist fields. This range of expertise enables us to understand complex matters from different perspectives and provide support tailored to each organisation’s needs.
“The greatest benefit is access to specialist safeguarding expertise and practical support. Kooyoora’s training, screening, policy advice and professional standards services have helped us build capability and capacity across parishes and ministries.”
How we can support your organisation
“ We need to be able to say, hand on heart, that we have taken every possible measure to keep our people safe and to keep the wider community safe.”
Complaints & Investigations
We conduct independent and impartial investigations into professional misconduct, abuse, harassment, bullying, boundary violations and whistleblowing concerns. Our experienced investigators manage minor, serious and complex matters using fair, thorough and trauma-informed processes. We also provide detailed findings to support informed organisational decision-making.
Pre-Employment Screening
Kooyoora’s Online Screening Application, OSCA, helps organisations manage pre-employment checks for employees and volunteers. The secure online platform provides real-time clearance information, automated notifications, reporting and streamlined screening processes, helping organisations make informed recruitment decisions and maintain safer workplaces.
Prevention
Our Abuse Prevention through Culture Change Framework helps organisations identify cultural conditions that may increase the risk of abuse, harassment and misconduct. The framework includes a self-assessment tool, implementation guide and practical resources to help organisations identify areas for improvement and strengthen safety, respect, accountability and psychological safety.
Professional Standards
Kooyoora administers professional standards arrangements for participating Anglican dioceses and institutions. Through the Office of Professional Standards, Kooyoora manages complaints and investigations, undertakes screening and clearance processes, supports the people involved and provides administrative support to independent professional standards bodies.
Redress
Kooyoora independently manages redress processes across a range of pathways, including the Kooyoora Independent Redress Scheme, the National Redress Scheme, civil litigation and redress programmes in Australia and New Zealand. We provide trauma-informed assistance, referrals, advice and follow-up, with a focus on fairness, transparency and care.
Counselling
We provide trauma-informed, evidence-based counselling for adults aged 18 and over. Brief to medium-term support is tailored to each person’s needs and circumstances, with a focus on safety, wellbeing, recovery and practical skill development. Sessions are available in person and by telehealth. Organisations can also speak with us about appropriate referral pathways for people who may benefit from counselling support.
Training & Development
We provide tailored safeguarding training for staff, leaders, officers and volunteers. Training can be delivered online or face to face and adapted to your organisation’s policies, practices, risks and responsibilities. Our practical programs help people understand their role in preventing harm, responding to concerns and contributing to a safer organisational culture.
Why Engage Kooyoora
Investigative Experience
Our team comprises experienced investigators with backgrounds in managing a wide range of complaints and concerns, including matters involving children, workplace conduct, safeguarding concerns, and complex or protracted investigations.
Independence
As an independent body, Kooyoora provides objective, impartial investigations. Our approach supports procedural fairness and helps organisations make informed decisions based on evidence and findings.
Trauma-Informed Approach
We apply a trauma-informed approach throughout the investigation process, recognising the impact trauma can have on individuals and adapting our practices to promote safety, dignity, and participation.
Strong Case Management
Our established case management processes support the timely, efficient, and consistent handling of complaints and investigations from commencement through to final reporting.
Complex Matters
We have experience managing complex investigations involving multiple parties, historical concerns, extensive evidence, or matters that extend over longer periods. Our approach is thorough, methodical, and proportionate to the circumstances.
Experience Engaging Children
Our investigators are trained in age-appropriate and child-centred interviewing approaches. Where investigations involve children or young people, we take steps to ensure they can participate safely and effectively.
Access to Specialist Expertise
When required, we engage specialist services, including transcription providers, technology experts, and subject matter specialists, to support the investigation process.
Reporting and Regulatory Obligations
Our investigators understand relevant reporting and regulatory requirements and can identify obligations that may arise during an investigation, including safeguarding and mandatory reporting considerations.
Due Diligence and Scoping
Before commencing an investigation, we undertake due diligence to understand the organisational context. This may include reviewing governance arrangements, relevant policies and procedures, known risks or concerns, and the scope of the proposed investigation. This process helps ensure that the matter is clearly defined, appropriate for investigation, and capable of being addressed effectively.
A trusted and independent safeguarding partner
Safeguarding responsibilities can be complex and challenging to navigate without the right knowledge, guidance and support. While managing concerns internally may seem more cost-effective, it can place significant demands on leaders, affect staff wellbeing, and create risks when processes, responsibilities or communication are unclear.
Independent support can strengthen confidence, reduce perceived bias, bring greater rigour to decision-making, and help prevent concerns from escalating.
Since 2017, Kooyoora has supported organisations to navigate complex safeguarding and professional standards matters with independence, fairness and care. Whether you need support with a single matter or a broader safeguarding strategy, our multidisciplinary team brings specialist expertise and a trauma-informed approach to every engagement.
