Team Spotlight: Julia Lambert Governance Coordinator

Can you tell us about your role at Kooyoora?

I’m the Governance Coordinator. My role focuses on the supporting Kooyoora’s CEO and Board. I work closely with the CEO on strategic projects and initiatives, policy management, compliance and I am also secretariat to the Board.

What inspired you to work at Kooyoora?

I was inspired to work at Kooyoora because of its commitment to safeguarding and creating environments where people feel safe, respected and heard. I have a background in human-centred design and embedding the voice of lived experience into policy and processes. Kooyoora is a great fit for this! I was also really keen to work closely with Fiona (CEO) who has a great reputation and approach to leadership.

What do you like most about working at Kooyoora?

I like that our work has a clear purpose and is aligned to my values of safe organisations and safe environments for everyone, especially children and vulnerable people.

What does a typical day 'in the office' look like?

A lot of reading, planning and writing!

What is a hobby/interest you have outside of work?

I enjoy dancing and am part of a swing dance troupe.

What’s your favourite way to spend a weekend?

Saturday morning swing dance or pilates class, long walks, slow dinners and big laughs. And of course, a house and mind reset in there as well to prepare me for the week.

Coffee or tea (or neither)?

Coffee! Always coffee.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?

Creative, curious and collaborative

What's the best place you've ever travelled to? Why?

Such a hard question because I love travelling. I love different languages, foods and cultures. I prefer warmer climates, so you can often find me trying to escape a Melbourne winter!

In the last twelve months I have travelled around Australia, Europe, Japan and then spent a week recovering in Bali ahead of starting at Kooyoora in July.

Do you have any hidden talents?

While I mentioned the dance troupe earlier, I’m not sure it’s a hidden talent! I like to think that what I lack in talent, I make up in enthusiasm!

What’s a fun fact about you?

My favourite podcast is called Finding Desperado, and it is about Ivan Drago, the villain in Rocky 4.

Cat or dog (or neither)?

Both!

Would you rather sing karaoke (solo) or be part of a choir?

Karaoke!

Do you have a favourite quote of motto?

Inner strength, outer sparkle.
